1. Introduction

 

Editors of the International Journal of Event Management Research (IJEMR) are responsible for maintaining the academic quality, integrity, and reputation of the journal. Editors must ensure that all submissions are handled fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with international publication ethics standards.

 

These guidelines outline the responsibilities and procedures for Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and Section Editors.


2. Editorial Responsibilities

 

Editors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring the quality and academic integrity of published content

  • Managing the peer review process

  • Making impartial publication decisions

  • Upholding ethical standards

  • Protecting the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts

  • Avoiding conflicts of interest

 

Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely on scholarly merit, without discrimination based on race, gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.


3. Initial Manuscript Screening

 

Upon submission, the assigned editor should:

  1. Confirm that the manuscript fits the journal’s scope.

  2. Check compliance with submission guidelines.

  3. Conduct or verify plagiarism screening.

  4. Evaluate basic methodological soundness and academic quality.

 

Manuscripts failing to meet basic standards may be desk-rejected with clear justification.


4. Peer Review Management

 

IJEMR follows a double-blind peer review process.

 

Editors must:

  • Select at least two qualified reviewers with relevant expertise

  • Avoid reviewer conflicts of interest

  • Ensure anonymity is preserved

  • Monitor timely completion of reviews

  • Evaluate the quality and constructiveness of reviewer reports

 

If reviewer reports conflict significantly, editors may:

  • Request an additional review

  • Provide a reasoned editorial decision based on academic merit


5. Editorial Decision Categories

 

Editors may issue one of the following decisions:

  • Accept

  • Minor Revisions Required

  • Major Revisions Required

  • Reject

 

Decisions must be:

  • Clearly justified

  • Based on reviewer comments and editorial evaluation

  • Communicated professionally to authors

 

For revisions, editors must ensure authors submit:

  • A revised manuscript

  • A detailed response-to-reviewers document


6. Ethical Oversight

 

Editors must ensure:

  • Research involving human participants includes ethical approval statements

  • Conflicts of interest are disclosed

  • Data fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism is not present

  • Duplicate or redundant publication is avoided

 

If ethical misconduct is suspected, editors must:

  • Investigate the matter

  • Request clarification from authors

  • Follow recognized publication ethics guidelines

  • Inform relevant institutions if necessary


7. Conflict of Interest

 

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts if:

  • They have collaborated with the author(s) within the last three years

  • They share the same institutional affiliation

  • They have personal, financial, or professional conflicts

 

In such cases, the manuscript must be reassigned to another editor.


8. Confidentiality

 

Editors must:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of submitted manuscripts

  • Not share unpublished material outside the review process

  • Ensure reviewer identities remain anonymous

  • Protect all editorial correspondence

 

Manuscripts and review documents must not be used for personal research or advantage.


9. Appeals and Complaints

 

If an author disputes an editorial decision:

  • The editor should review the case carefully

  • A re-evaluation may be conducted if justified

  • A final decision should be communicated clearly

 

All appeals must be handled objectively and transparently.


10. Post-Acceptance Responsibilities

 

Once a manuscript is accepted, editors must:

  • Ensure final revisions are complete

  • Confirm formatting compliance

  • Oversee copyediting and proofreading

  • Approve final proofs before publication

 

Editors should ensure that publication timelines are reasonable and efficient.


11. Editorial Integrity and Independence

 

Editors must operate independently from:

  • Commercial influences

  • Sponsorship pressures

  • Institutional bias

 

Editorial decisions must never be influenced by advertising, funding sources, or personal interests.


12. Maintaining Journal Quality

 

Editors are encouraged to:

  • Promote high-quality submissions

  • Invite special issues on emerging themes

  • Monitor citation impact and indexing standards

  • Engage with academic networks in event management research

  • Periodically review and update journal policies


13. Communication Standards

 

All communication with authors and reviewers must be:

  • Professional

  • Respectful

  • Transparent

  • Timely

 

Clear explanations must accompany all decisions.
